Hi,
This is the updated version of the Jumbo patch against a clean 2.0.35. What this patch does:
- It fixes Cyrix 6x86 and 6x86L CPU detection. - Fixes bogomips calibration. (courtesy Richard Johnson). - Improves AMD CPU detection. - Has extended capability flags detection for AMD CPUs, code by Rob Dale (e.g. reports a new "3dnow" flag). - Inaugurates Centaur C6 detection. - Improves time.c code on CPUs with a Time Stamp Counter (fast code should work with APM now, also doesn't break with Centaur C6 step 0). - Reports MHz clock rates on CPUs with a TSC in /proc/cpuinfo. - Calibrates TSC at boot time (drift and jitter free). - Adds the single-line fix to the vt.c code buglet that affected e.g. minicom (this fix was posted last week on the list).
I am sorry to be attaching the patch as a MIME base64 attachment, but even my uuencoded file seemed to have problems last time :-(
Hope this one makes it intact.
Thanks to all the people who tested and reported on the earlier patch revisions (BTW Rob tested it on an impressive list of CPUs: Intel 486, K6, K6-2, Intel Celeron; I tested it on Cyrix 6x86L, 6x86MX and MII; needed: C6 and Intel Pentium testers).
