The key question is: but if it *is* the standard way it has worked for
years and still works that way on every other environment. Do you want
to make these subtle changes to Linux, that make it behave differently
from everything else in the world. (Though, I suppose this zero
leading octal interpretation in IP address often comes as a surprise
to many, myself included when I first ran into it few years back).
