SubjectProblem with AHA-3985 (.104pre1/.105ac4)
I just got that beast. And for some reason Linux never can see devices
an all 3 channels - sometimes on 1, sometimes on 2.
It *always* finds all 3 controllers.

scsi0 : Adaptec AHA274x/284x/294x (EISA/VLB/PCI-Fast SCSI) 5.0.17/3.2.4
<Adaptec AHA-398X SCSI host adapter>
scsi1 : Adaptec AHA274x/284x/294x (EISA/VLB/PCI-Fast SCSI) 5.0.17/3.2.4
<Adaptec AHA-398X SCSI host adapter>
scsi2 : Adaptec AHA274x/284x/294x (EISA/VLB/PCI-Fast SCSI) 5.0.17/3.2.4
<Adaptec AHA-398X SCSI host adapter>
scsi : 3 hosts.

(scsi0:0:-1:-1) Scanning channel for devices.

(scsi0:-1:-1:-1) Referenced SCB 255 not valid during SELTO.
SCSISEQ = 0x12 SEQADDR = 0x9 SSTAT0 = 0x15 SSTAT1 = 0x88
Vendor: QUANTUM Model: VIKING 4.5 NSE Rev: 880R
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Detected scsi disk sda at scsi1, channel 0, id 6, lun 0
(scsi1:0:6:0) Synchronous at 10.0MHz, offset 15.
(scsi2:0:-1:-1) Scanning channel for devices.
Vendor: QUANTUM Model: VIKING 4.5 NSE Rev: 880R
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Detected scsi disk sdb at scsi2, channel 0, id 5, lun 0
(scsi2:0:5:0) Synchronous at 10.0MHz, offset 15.
scsi : detected 2 SCSI disks total.

In that boot it didn't find disk on channel0 (scsi0). And always, when
it can't find devices on channel, it'll do that:

(scsi0:-1:-1:-1) Bad scbptr 255 during SELTO.
(scsi0:-1:-1:-1) Referenced SCB 255 not valid during SELTO.
SCSISEQ = 0x12 SEQADDR = 0x9 SSTAT0 = 0x15 SSTAT1 = 0x88

sooner or later. Maybe the problem is SMP.

Same thing in both .104pre1 and .105ac4. Tried no_reset. Tried to play
with AHA BIOS. Usually it can find disk on scsi0, but as you can see not
always.
