SubjectRe: oh woe, oh woe, oh woe is me... [2.0.34p16 + 3com]

I've gotten many good reports about the reliability of the current driver
with both the 3c905 and 3c905B. There always at least one person that will
swear up-and-down that the driver has a problem when something else in their
system is actually the problem. I don't know how many times I have sent a
one-line "Don't use 'gated'" response to angry messages about my drivers.

Sorry, I have a 3c905 and it crashes regularly with every kernel I
try. My distribution is a redhat 4.2, without gated or anything
similar. With kernel 2.0.34pre16 and the driver compiled as module, I
regularly have a panic when a level 0 dump runs on the machine:

skput:over: 001922d4:232

That address is between:

001920a8 t boomerang_rx
00192480 t vortex_close

Another problem, with the pcnet 32 driver (2.0.34pre16): if it's
compiled as module, I can regularly crash my box simply doing a

tar cf remotehost:/dev/st0 /

When I compile the driver into the kernel I have no problems.
