Yes, there are almost always multiple people adding new features simultaneously.
We should probably split things up in categories. Then the people inside a category (linux-mm, linux-scsi) can assign numbers without bothering linux-kernel...
Ok. I'm not familiar with how major and minor numbers are assigned. Splitting things up by catagory is probably the right thing to do. Maybe a multi-level heirarchy, ie: disk, memory, networking; then split ie disk into scsi, ide, etc.
I'm sure I missed many toplevel catagories. I'm currently fighting a nasty sore throat caused by all the smoke we're getting here in Texas. :(
