Using GCC 2.8.1, though I doubt that caused it since the exact same .config doesn't have a problem with 2.1.99. (Used oldconfig, totally missed the menuconfig bug.)
If I press ScrollLock long enough to write down the Oops immediately after it occurs, no other oopses occur. If I let the system continue booting _without the pause_, I get a five page scrolling oops that doesn't make it into the system logs. I see a lot of 'Scheduling in interrupt' though. The call trace is about 15 screen lines long at that point.
Dual Pentium 133, Tyan Tomcat IV, 64 MB RAM, SMP kernel, 1 Maxtor EIDE HD, Internal modem, unused BTC 1815 soundcard (driver?), and a Cirrus Logic GD 5430 (though I still don't see anything that the kernel PCI workaround does, I have 2 MB of video RAM with and without the "ROM BIOS disable").
