I have been unable to boot 2.1.99 on my 2xPPro-200 SMP box.
First boot gave this
>FDC 0 is a post-1991 82077 >aic7xxx: Warning - detected auto-termination on controller: >aic7xxx: <Adaptec AHA-2940A Ultra SCSI host adapter> at PCI 9/0 >aic7xxx: Please verify driver detected settings are correct. >aic7xxx: If not, then please properly set the device termination >aic7xxx: in the Adaptec SCSI BIOS by hitting CTRL-A when prompted >aic7xxx: during machine bootup. >aic7xxx: Cables present (Int-50 NO, Ext-50 NO) >aic7xxx: Termination Enabled >(scsi0) <Adaptec AHA-2940A Ultra SCSI host adapter> found at PCI 9/0 >(scsi0) Narrow Channel, SCSI ID=7, 3/255 SCBs >(scsi0) BIOS disabled, IO Port 0xdc00, IRQ 16 >(scsi0) IO Memory at 0xeefef000, MMAP Memory at 0xc5800000 >(scsi0) Resetting channel >(scsi0) Downloading sequencer code... 413 instructions downloaded >scsi0 : Adaptec AHA274x/284x/294x (EISA/VLB/PCI-Fast SCSI) 5.0.13/3.2.4 > <Adaptec AHA-2940A Ultra SCSI host adapter> >scsi : 1 host. >(scsi0:0:-1:-1) Scanning channel for devices. >(scsi0:-1:-1:-1) Referenced SCB 1 not valid during SELTO. > SCSISEQ = 0x5a SEQADDR = 0x8 SSTAT0 = 0x15 SSTAT1 = 0x88
The last 2 lines are then repeated constantly.
The second boot gave. >FDC 0 is a post-1991 82077 >aic7xxx: Warning - detected auto-termination on controller: >aic7xxx: <Adaptec AHA-2940A Ultra SCSI host adapter> at PCI 9/0 >aic7xxx: Please verify driver detected settings are correct. >aic7xxx: If not, then please properly set the device termination >aic7xxx: in the Adaptec SCSI BIOS by hitting CTRL-A when prompted >aic7xxx: during machine bootup. >aic7xxx: Cables present (Int-50 NO, Ext-50 NO) >aic7xxx: Termination Enabled >(scsi0) <Adaptec AHA-2940A Ultra SCSI host adapter> found at PCI 9/0 >(scsi0) Narrow Channel, SCSI ID=7, 3/255 SCBs >(scsi0) BIOS disabled, IO Port 0xdc00, IRQ 16 >(scsi0) IO Memory at 0xeefef000, MMAP Memory at 0xc5800000 >(scsi0) Resetting channel >(scsi0:0:-1:-1) Waiting List inconsistency; SCB index=255, numscbs=0 >(scsi0:0:-1:-1) Waiting List inconsistency; SCB index=255, numscbs=0 >(scsi0:0:-1:-1) Waiting List inconsistency; SCB index=255, numscbs=0 >(scsi0:0:-1:-1) Yikes!! Last two lines loop, but note the 'Waiting List inconsistency' and 'loop in the free list' errors.
Third boot
>(scsi0) Resetting channel >(scsi0:0:-1:-1) Waiting List inconsistency; SCB index=255, numscbs=0 >(scsi0:0:-1:-1) Waiting List inconsistency; SCB index=255, numscbs=0 >(scsi0:0:-1:-1) Waiting List inconsistency; SCB index=255, numscbs=0 >(scsi0:0:-1:-1) Waiting List inconsistency; SCB index=255, numscbs=0 >(scsi0:0:-1:-1) Waiting List inconsistency; SCB index=255, numscbs=0 >(scsi0:0:-1:-1) Waiting List inconsistency; SCB index=255, numscbs=0 >(scsi0:0:-1:-1) Waiting List inconsistency; SCB index=255, numscbs=0 >(scsi0:0:-1:-1) Yikes!! There is a loop in the disconnected list! >(scsi0:0:-1:-1) Yikes!! There is a loop in the free list! >(scsi0) Downloading sequencer code... 413 instructions downloaded >scsi0 : Adaptec AHA274x/284x/294x (EISA/VLB/PCI-Fast SCSI) 5.0.13/3.2.4 > <Adaptec AHA-2940A Ultra SCSI host adapter> >scsi : 1 host. >(scsi0:0:-1:-1) Scanning channel for devices. >(scsi0:-1:-1:-1) Referenced SCB 1 not valid during SELTO. > SCSISEQ = 0x5a SEQADDR = 0x8 SSTAT0 = 0x15 SSTAT1 = 0x8
Again the last 2 lines loop, but this we add a 'loop in the disconnected list' error.
This machine also suffers from the PCI NE2000 disconnection bug. The hardware works perfectly under 2.1.96, NT4, & Win98.
The first part of the boot messages are below for reference.
