Hi all.
I am currently running 2.1.92-pre1 on a Pentium 166, 64 Mb RAM, 32 Mb swap, Buslogic 948 SCSI, no IDE. Had problems with 2.1.90-pre3 and swapping 'til death, but Rik had a patch that cleared that up. No problems with 2.1.91 or .92-pre1. Only thing is that swapping goes out to the disk sooner than 2.0.33 and swap on disk seems to take longer to recover (which is ok, I'll take physical ram over disk any time). Question for those noticing these problems: do you have IDE disks? Maybe there is a strange interaction going on between kswapd and IDE drivers as opposed to SCSI. I have also played around with the vm sysctl, knocked swapout_interval down to 15 (from 25) and set freepages to 128 256 512 (the 1:2:4 ratio as per vm.txt). My system is mostly used for general purpose things, programming, running X all the time, IP Masq for a Mac.
