this is, as you say, both true and unfortunate :).

i'm reading over your lastest patch and trying a few things as i write
this, and should hopefully ahve a clearer idea of what some of these
problems are later today (sadly i haven't got any parallel devices, so
i'm mostly relying on the details provided by other folks' posts to the
list for info on that front.) thanks for your help, and stay tuned... :)
