I know all of You people recognize this message:
Sound: DMA (output) timed out - IRQ/DRQ config error?
But in case of CS4232 such problem existed long before 2.1.98, for example in 2.1.91.
This problem is pretty easily reproductable. Just take some MPG3 player and try interrupting the process of playing - mpg123(1) or amp(1) will end it's playing and you'll return to shell. Then start MPG3 player again. After repeating this sequence several times (usually not more than ten) Linux will refuse to play any further and will show the message above (DMA timed out) with a silent *buf* sound each second until MPG3 player is stopped. Happens to both module and in-kernel driver. Unloading and loading again sound modules doesn't help. (There's also one more thing - gpm'ed mouse on the console didn't want to highlight the text (the message above) - I had to press all the mouse keys, and then I could copy it across VCs - but I didn't check whether it is reproductable...).
