The format of /proc/net/dev changed - if you cat /proc/net/dev, you will
probably see that the 4914720 is either the Transmit byte or packet count.
There are some patches to ifconfig floating around to fix this, but I'm
not sure if the latest net-tools fixes this or not. In any case, for
correct column numbers, check /proc/net/dev and I think you'll find that
your machines aren't nuking transmits.
