Get a newer version of kermit that opens the device properly. My version
opens it non-blocking then uses fcntl() to set/reset the bit later. I
use it everytime I install a new modem somewhere and have to execute..
AT&F1
ATS0=1
AT&W
...I know that sequence by heart... so it will answer a caller.
