I have only IDE drives too, but it seems that my machine crashes due
heavy X activity. mpg123 some.mp3; while [ -d / ]; do set; done seems to
crash it in 2-3 minutes.

BTW. Which soundcard do you have, i'm also somewhat suspicious about GUS
and it's driver, it has strange design anyway i think. Do you have GUS's
also?

I should try new .87 ASAP, have you tried that?
