    Make it the gettext way : the ID is the English string. Or, if you want
    Linux to look like AIX, as some suggested (with reason) here, make the ID
    a checksum of the English string (sum all chars in the second argument of
    printk and call that a support message number).

    There will just need some policing to be done, to avoid having too much
    references to strings such as "%s - %d (0x%08x)" which is obviously a bit
    hard to translate...
