Firstly, this machine is a client NOT a server. The strange part is that
it was working (and still works) perfectly under 2.1.127-pre2 or ANY
earlier kernel as far back as I can recall. Something in the transition
between pre-2 and pre-3 broke it. Very repeatable and very annoying..
