SubjectRe: Linux V2.1.128 localhost performance

I have the same thing happening on my machine. 2.1.128 , ping came with
slackware (3.5 ?).

--- localhost ping statistics ---
29817 packets transmitted, 766 packets received, 97% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 2.0/122.7/227.1 ms
