First of all, my reason for posting this here is because I think that the people who might best know the answer are in this list due to the high technical level of the subscribers.
With all of the improvements in computing over the last decade, one thing remains a dead annoyance IMHO. The noise produced by the computer's power supply fan.
During normal operation the fan is noisy enough to annoy, until you get used to it as most of us have. Even then though, it is still annoying. Eventually the fan starts to go and makes extra loud noises until replaced.
Is there an alternative method of cooling the power supply? I understand also that the fan draws air through the computer which cools the entire inside of the case, but is there a better way? What about some sort of cooling unit? Do they exist for computers? I know you can get a peltier cooling unit for the CPU, but what about for the power supply?
My primary concern is to replace the noisy fan with a silent (or at least a much quieter) alternative, while still retaining all of the function that the fan provides to both the power supply and the rest of the system (both airflow and cooling).
Any ideas? Please reply privately and not to the list. I'll post a single message back of the suggestions/findings/etc.. if enough people want to see the results.
Thanks a bundle! TTYL
