Depends on how the upgrade was done...I recently bought an extremely amusing book of real live tech support incidents, and one truly awsome one involved a user who was calling to see if he needed a new BIOS because his computer would not boot after he unsoldered the 286 and soldered in a 486, soldering pins together as needed to make it fit!
"Tales from the Tech Line" is the name of the book.
