I agree with your diagnosis that it's the /proc filesystem that's at fault. I've just tidied up the aha152x driver to properly unregister ioports and interrupts - it was already unregistering its /proc directory because that's done for it automatically by the scsi subsystem.
The patch I submitted to Linus for the aha152x driver is still valid - no further modification is needed AFAIK.
