Linus' statement that he 'doesn't like crash dumps' doesn't necessarily mean that they are verbotten for everyone. It has been mentioned that there are ways to patch the bootloader (for example) to create a crash dump without modifying the linux kernel at all. And should kernel modification be necessary, there's no reason why the patch could not be maintained separately, in 'Big Mama' or linuxHQ.
