Maybe it died before?
There were two problem in connection with klogd:
. klogd was getting a segmentation fault when the log message contained a '%' sign. Such messages occurred on 2.1.78 first. This was addressed in sysklogd 1.3-20.
. klogd wasn't terminating immediately when receiving a termination signal. This was addressed in sysklogd 1.3-19.
You'll find the most recent sysklogd packge at
ftp://ftp.infodrom.north.de/pub/people/joey/sysklogd/sysklogd-1.3-20.tar.gz
The most recent Debian package can be found at
ftp://ftp.infodrom.north.de/pub/people/joey/debian/sysklogd_1.3-20_<arch>.deb
It's already uploaded but still sits in the Debian incoming directory but you can fetch it from:
ftp://llug.sep.bnl.gov/pub/debian/Incoming/
