Here is the result of some testing with the first patch.
Here's a Linux compile concurrent with `ls -R /' with memory before and after.

In short, since we ended up with more memory than we started (grin), the new code seems to work okay. Also, the time to compile the kernel did not seem to change:

I have this running in a loop on my SMP machine, no problems yet.
I will install you new patch and continue testing, with some MS-DOS access as well.
