SubjectTransient file system error w/ pre-2.0.31-2 + July 22 patches
Date
With X running, an xterm, a rxvt (running a ftp transfer via PPP), and Netscape
loaded, I got "Permission denied" when trying "ls -l" on a directory. I repeated
and got the same message. I su'ed to root, but could see nothing wrong. When I
exited that, everything worked again.

With pre-2.0.31-2 and an older patch, I once got some execute bits turned on by
themselves. With a standard 2.0.30 kernel, the system locks up almost all the
time. It's a 486 motherboard with a cyrix 586 cpu and 16MB of RAM.

I/m not sure this is related to the current buffer troubles, but I've never seen
this with any other kernel. I vaguely remember something about this but I don't
remember where. Any ideas?

Thanks.
