SubjectDevice number for ROM drive.
Date
From

I am putting together a driver which will allow ROM mapped into physical
memory to me accessed as a block device, for use in embedded Linux systems
with no other storage. It's basically a copy of the old (1.3.47) ramdisk.c
with a few modifications.

I see that major device number 31 is assigned to "ROM/flash memory card", and
I suppose I should use this.

The question is: What happened to the work that provoked the registration of
the device number? Who was working on it, and how far did they get?
