Subject2.1.37 total lockup

Linux 2.1.37
XFree86 3.2, FVWM 1.24r, Netscape 3
Pentium with 32 MB, lots of swap and no swapping
vt510 serial terminal connected (to check if really dead)
PPP connection running
no modules loaded, no kerneld, good hardware, kernel 2.1.24 works great
UFS mount had failed (CD-ROM, ll_rw_block did not like 1024-byte blocks)

I viewed the attached web page in Netscape, and pressed the button.
Netscape popped up a window, as instructed by the javascript.
I put down many of the windows, perhaps 100.

That gave me a solid lockup. My serial terminal was useless.
There was nothing in the logs. There wasn't even an oops on
the screen because my i386 kernel does not have video support
like a sparc or m68k one would.

How does one debug this without special test hardware?
(less is better: I have a terminal, but many people do not)

Idea 1: I hear Netware can exit to DOS from full 32-bit code.
Could Linux and loadlin.exe preserve DOS like that?
Then a DOS memory dump program could grab the dead kernel
if the hardware is not hopelessly locked.

Idea 2: Memory dump with zmodem. Not to my terminal though. :-(
Polling could be used in case the IRQ support is dead.
Maybe have some reserved space for new page tables.

Well, here is the web page:
