When I use strace, it causes the kernel to die over the course of maybe 20
seconds. I can switch consoles and use the ScrollLock magic combinations
until those quit working, the mouse (gpm) does not work, and the kernel
wings its way home to Mount Olympus. This happened both with the
for-ingo-and-david patch and with the final 2.1.37.

I'm not entirely sure where I got my copy of strace. It probably was a
precompiled one from the Jurix distribution. It's dated 18 June 1996, but
I might have stripped it and messed up the timestamp. I put it up on
http://jpj.net/~trevor/strace.gz in case anyone wants to look at it.
