I would love to see this, but it might be good to look at all the LVM software available and decide what we want just to make sure no good features are left out. Also, I believe that there was a group of people working on a logging file system for linux and I think they were keeping the idea of resizing the file system in mind. I don't remember the URL for the project web page though.
I have never used the IRIX volume management software, but I do use the Digital Unix advfs file system, and I like it a lot. I found the man page for advfs on line at:

I know that Sun and IBM have similar software, but I don't have any information on those either. Perhaps someone else will.
