SubjectRe: Packages required for 2.1.24
Date
In article <32F4C273.1D2B@algonet.se> Mats Forssblad <froz@algonet.se> writes:
According to "changes" I should upgrade a lot of packages, but is
this crucial? [...] There seem to be no rpms for the required more recent
packages. Do I actually need the very latest for a 2.1.24 kernel?

Watch out -- you changed the subject between the beginning of the
message and the end, which is a good sign you're heading for trouble.

The answer is: You don't need the *very latest* but you sure as sh*t
need the versions listed in the documentation that comes with the
kernel. If you don't, you will run into trouble -- if you're lucky,
it simply won't compile; if you're unlucky, it won't execute
correctly. The documentation also lists where you can download the
required versions from.

Believe me -- I've learned this lesson the hard way.
