My WD is showing the same signs right now. I have the definite desire to never buy a WD drive again. I haven't yet decided on a replacement brand, but was happy with Seagate in the past...
kernel: hdc: irq timeout: status=0x50 { DriveReady SeekComplete } kernel: hdc: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error } kernel: hdc: dma_intr: error=0x04 { DriveStatusError } kernel: hdc: disabled DMA kernel: ide1: reset: success
Those errors seem to occur at random. e2fsck -c in an infinite loop shows no bad blocks. Still the machine hung yesterday with stuff like that sprayed all over the console.
Of course, stuff like this happens month after the warranty is off.
