Hello kernel hackers,
Here is Smart CONFIG_* for 2.1.72:
<ftp://ftp.shout.net/pub/users/mec/patch/smart-config.2172>
Smart CONFIG_* is a kernel patch to mkdep.c and related files to implement individual CONFIG_* dependencies. So if you build a kernel, then reconfigure and change CONFIG_FOO_WHATEVER, only the files that use CONFIG_FOO_WHATEVER will be recompiled. This cuts kernel rebuild time about 90%.
As the gnu people like to say: all reported bugs have been fixed. See the beginning of the patch for a change summary.
Please keep sending success reports and bug reports. I would like to see this feature in the standard kernel, but so far I've gotten no response from Linus Torvalds.
