SubjectRe: [2.1.56] Byte counting on network devices
From my experiments with my 2.1.56 kernel, I notice that byte-counting in
>/proc/net/dev seems to be working just fine - except that the bytes it

On my system bytes are counted on the lo device for data transferred
there, there is no apparent problem with this (but I haven't checked very
closely).

As for ppp it just doesn't count the bytes. Install this patch
(against 2.1.45 but still applies to 2.1.65)
ftp://snoopy.virtual.net.au/Linux/kernel/patch/byte_count.45 to fix the
problem.
