Hello,
I installed the 2.1.65 kernel on my alpha machine (a UDB). The ext2 is fast ! But there are some bugs, two of them were already in 2.0.30:
** binfmt_misc.o cat not be loaded: it complains about the unresolved symbol strrchr. I guess there lacks an EXPORT somewhere, but I do not know where.
** when doing a "make menuconfig", after having selected my board (Noname), the scsi drivers list does not include my scsi controller, the ncr53c810. "make config" works correctly. I do not see what is wrong in drivers/scsi/Config.in.
** this third bug is not annoying under normal conditions, but scares me a little: if I type "route add loopback", the kernel dumps many messages on the console, mainly many "Exception at ...". It scrolls too fast for me to read them clearly, and never stops. Ctrl-Alt-Del does not work, I have to push the power switch. The version of route is 1.92 from net-tools 1.32-alpha.
My system is a plain redhat 4.2, with binutils upgraded to 2.8.1, mount to 2.7f and modutils 2.1.55. Non-SMP kernel 2.1.65.
By the way, modules work great ! No strip -x is anymore necessary. (with a kernel compiled with binutils 2.7, it crashes more than it works, but seems fine with 2.8.1).

PS: my kernel just told me: remove_proc_entry: parent nlink=2, file nlink=1 Is this normal behaviour ? What does it mean ?
