Subjectdrive error and linux
if anyone cares, reading from a fried ext2 (even by accident *sigh*) kills
the kernel....

Shouldn't there be some way to prevent this?

(the drive has been sacrificed to the gods of recycling :)

I have 4 happy drives left - most of which are busy doing something. I
have enough flakey hardware present that another such error could happen
at some random point in the future - and I'll lose everything I was
working on on the _GOOD_ drives.

There should be SOME error recovery - even as much as a "sync" command.
[even sysrq froze]

G'day, eh? :)
