IMO 2.1.60 smbfs is already much better than the 2.0.xx counterpart. The present problems stem from a lack of beta testers. I have only an NT system to test against, and smbfs works extremely well on my system.
So, if you'd like to join in helping make it better, please test it out and help me track down the remaining problems.
