Believe it or not, I once found a PCMCIA Ethernet card which seems to pick an Ethernet address by probing the net or similar; it would usually pick 00:00:00:00:00:00 or 00:00:00:00:00:01 or something equivalent... needless to say, I banned the bloody thing from my net immediately...
