I have the same problem, but I wanted to check it thoroughly before
posting. My first attempt at compiling 2.0.17 was with a kernel source
patched up from 2.0, so I decided to get a vanilla copy and try that.

After downloading linux-2.0.17.tar.gz, and checking the filesizes to be
sure I got it all, I did a make menuconfig, make dep, make clean, make
zlilo, make modules, and make modules_install. All this on my poor
little Packard Bell 486SX25 with 8M RAM & 340M HD. Needless to say, it
    took a little while...

And I seem to have wasted my time. Does anyone have any idea what's
going on with this? This is the first time I have _ever_ had a kernel
that wouldn't boot! My .config is below, and more info is available upon
    request.

    Thanx!
