SubjectRe: ess 1688

Do you mean ess 688 (rather than ess1688) ?
If so, the answer seems to be yes. I recently invested in a new box which
had an ess 688/968 board installed. It works fine for me. The documentation
shows jumper settings for Panasonic, Mitsumi/Creative & Sony CD_ROM's.

I set it up with Creative settings and it worked straight away.
The only difference was that the CD drive comes set up as a
secondary IDE device, rather than tertiary as was the case for my
previous (real) Creative CD.
