With 2.0.21 and probably a few earlier kernels, sound has been working sporadically with my cheapy SB16. It has worked fine in the past and no recent hardware changes have occurred.
gomer:~/anims# cat /dev/sndstat Sound Driver:3.5.4-960630 (Wed Sep 18 10:40:58 EDT 1996 root, Linux gomer 2.0.20 #1 Fri Sep 13 09:22:47 EDT 1996 i586) Kernel: Linux gomer 2.0.21 #2 Fri Sep 20 11:53:23 EDT 1996 i586 Config options: 0
Installed drivers: Type 2: Sound Blaster
Card config: Sound Blaster at 0x220 irq 5 drq 1,5
Audio devices: 0: Sound Blaster 16 (4.13)
Synth devices:
Midi devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG
Timers: 0: System clock
Mixers: 0: Sound Blaster
When I run an xanim .avi which is basically my test of knowning when sound is working, I get the following error in my syslog:
Sound DMA (output) timed out - IRQ/DRQ config error? last message repeated 3 times last message repeated 6 times
While it is playing, I can hear the audio break thru for a very brief 1/2 second or so every once in a while. The last time I had this problem, a reboot seemed to correct the problem. Though this time, my system was recently rebooted so I find it strange that its showed up already. The only other thing the SB16 is used for is playing audio CD's.
When running from Windows 95 or NT 4.0, sound is working great.
