gcc is Debian 2.7.2-8.
The machine is 120MHz Pentium, Adaptec 2940, Matrox Millenium.
I won't be able to answer any questions as I'm going to have a vacation starting next week (my wife gave birth to a healthy baby girl, guess what day? Sept 17 (==Linux)! Virtual cigars and cognac to everybody!).
