Someone on the Debian-User mailing list recently mentioned a kernel patch called irqtune. It supposedly can increase throughput over a serial port by up to 3x. It does this by allowing you to increase the priority of the IRQs for the serial ports. The web page for this patch is at http://www.best.com/~cae/irqtune. It also mentions some things that are currently being done wrong in the kernel regarding interupts. Can people smarter than me look at this page and verify if this is valid or not? If it is, can this patch (or some of the ideas from this patch) be incorporated into the official kernel release?
Thanks,
