Not sure.. Sounds similar to a problem I had 4 day's ago... I was reading
off a NFS mounted cd-rom (NEC-260 IDE in the remote machine, which has a
3c509 NIC in it) and started getting "NFS server not responding messages"
while noticing loadavg climbing and ping response falling on both
machines.

Could NFS be getting too energetic in trying to get the NFS going again?
