After applying the new patch that was just send to me by the ide-guy ;), I rebooted and tested the system. Now it actually booted, both with the parameters "ide0=autotune and ide1=autotune" and without. However, the system hung for a few seconds when my init scripts where adding the 25Meg swap which is located under /dev/hdb1 and loaded via fstab. Then it spit this out: hda: irq timeout: status=0x58 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest} This happened with and without the kernel parameters. Then it booted normally from there on.
However, the performance was not good [hdparm -t /dev/hda]: W/O the kernel parameters: 1.58 MB/sec [on a WD AC31000F mode 3] W/ the kernel parameters: 2.42 MB/sec [ " " " " ] w/ kernel 2.0.0 and CMD support: 3.38 MB/sec [ " " " ]
Upon a warm reboot w/o the parameters I got the following error message after the error stated above: EXT2-fs warning (device 03:03): ext2 _free_inode: bit already cleared for inode 2339
System Configuration: P100, Gigabyte Motherboard, Award Bios, 16M Ram, CMD640B PCI, floppy tape streamer [ditto 420], Tekram DC390 SCSI. /dev/hda: WD AC31000F 1Gig mode 3 ide drive /dev/hdb: WD AC2420F 420M mode 3 ide drive /dev/hdc: Toshiba XM-5302TA cdrom.
Tell me if you need more. Regards,
