| |
Many many kudos and thanks go to Digi for releasing their official Linux driver for the Xe, Xem (VERY NICE PRODUCT) and Xr cards, and additional thanks for releasing it in mostly source code format under the GPL (bios.bin files excluded of course ;-) )
Such an effort by a major contender in the PC-Unix multiport market is a very important signal to other manufacturers and publishers that Linux is quickly arriving. It is time for other companies to recognize, as Digi has, that "free OS" does not have to mean "No profits", and that Linux does have the potential to generate big profits through the sale of peripheral hardware, software and support. This is especially true because the price of the OS is so attractive when compared to commercial "official" Unices.
Apologies to the list readers for the advocacy paragraph, however, I thought some of you might like to know about the driver release.
The driver is available at ftp.digibd.com/drivers/linux __ William E. Roadcap mailto:roadcapw@cfw.com TITUS Software ftp://titus.cfw.com/pub Waynesboro, Va (USA) http://www.cfw.com/~roadcapw
