I have an ESS ES1688 AudioDrive (rev 11) (3.1) and still have that problem, despite wiping the kernel tree and extracting a new fresh tree in its stead.
The oddity is the reported MPU401 IRQ when I cat /dev/sndstat : Installed drivers: Type 1: OPL-2/OPL-3 FM Type 2: Sound Blaster Type 7: SB MPU-401
Card config: Sound Blaster at 0x220 irq 5 drq 1,5 (SB MPU-401 at 0x330 irq 5 drq 0) ^^^^^ OPL-2/OPL-3 FM at 0x388 drq 0
Audio devices: 0: ESS ES1688 AudioDrive (rev 11)
Synth devices: 0: Yamaha OPL-3
Midi devices:
Timers: 0: System clock
Mixers: 0: Sound Blaster
I specified IRQ 2 for the MPU and I suspect that this causes this PnP card to freeze up when booting into MS-Dog (?)
<shrug> It would be nice to be able to soft boot, but I can live with it.
The other oddity is the kernel reporting on bootup : Sound initialization started <ESS ES1688 AudioDrive (rev 11) (3.1)> at 0x220 irq 5 dma 1,5 <Yamaha OPL3 FM> at 0x388 Sound initialization complete
So, where's the MPU device that /dev/sndstat reports ?
Hannu ?
While I'm at it, is ESS somewhere on the 'Net where I can get the latest drivers released for this card ?
TIA
