Please don't touch ext2fs. Make a new all-singing all-dancing ext3fs if
you want. I like my stable ext2fs file system.

We are planning on adding extensions to ext2fs --- as long as you don't
use some the extended features, it should be stable. The planned format
changes to ext2fs are designed to be very modular, and backwards
compatible with 2.0 kernels. Compatibility with 2.0, by the way, is a
very important requirement, which is one of the reasons why I don't
think we would want to do it as ext3fs.
