SubjectKERN_INFO messages

How do I prevent KERN_INFO messages appearing in the kernel
message buffer (viewed by 'dmesg')? I tried setting the
level with 'dmesg -n 5' which I thought would do it from
looking at the manual, but it makes no difference at all.
I'm getting lots of 'lp off-line' messages when there's
something in the print queue but the printer is switched
off. It's a normal condition and I'm not keen on filling
the message buffer with that kind of trivia.

Is something broken somewhere that makes it impossible to
stop these messages?
