SubjectRe: real kernel bloat

Reconfigure your kernel, throwing away everything you do not need, and
recompile the kernel. This suggestion is obvious. What is less
obvious is that you can have your swap in two different modes:
immediate and over-commitment. I'd recommend the latter. Do 'man
swapon', you'll learn everything you need to know. It is likely,
that you have to scsi controllers in your machine (Bus 0 and Bus1).
We never did it, but performance should improve if your swap drive
sits on a separate bus.
