Among the 350 or so e-mail messages I got today :< Someone wrote me that I they had read that ms-dos (Win95) stores it's boot screen in a file that's partially true! But the fact is, they tricked you!
What happens is that after MS-DOS finds the partitons and mounts them (yes it does do that). It scans the root directory of all assigned drives, aside from A: and B:, for a file called Logo.sys this is a custom boot-image. However, if you format your hard drive and leave nothing on it, then reboot your system. You'll find that Windows still displays "Starting Windows 95" as a graphic! Hence it is inside IO.SYS and since it is 39K or so that is why IO.SYS is 250K
Try the following:
in Windows 95 go to a DOS prompt and type format A: /s wait and let it finish label it whatever you feel like! Run Attrib -r -h -s A:\MSDOS.SYS ^^^^^^^ yes! Include the spaces then type EDIT A:\MSDOS.SYS add a line that Says: LOGO=1 save and close this file. Exit the dos box! Print this message. Exit Windows and Reboot your computer.
Go into the C-MOS Setup and Disable all of your IDE HARD-DRIVES. (Warning, this is only to accentuate the point. If you don't know what you are doing. Then don't do this, BTW if your C-MOS doesn't have Autodetect then forget it al together, Your system is to old to run Win95 anyway)
let the system boot from A: type DIR /a ( the /a switch is to show all files) at the A:\ prompt and guess what, nothing but IO.SYS MSDOS.SYS and COMMAND.COM no LOGO.SYS ! if you still don't believe me, then try going to C: D: or even Z: ! but there's nothing there. If you see my point, the start-up logo is inside IO.SYS!
also if you don't feel like doing this, just take my word for it, it's true!
DISCLAIMER: I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU FUCK UP YOUR SYSTEM! ^^^^^^ And I never cuss, so I'm serious about this! Bye, and pardon my French for using such harsh language!
