Didnt get this with 1.99.9, with exactly the same configuration (to my
knowledge). I just patched 1.99.9 to .10, and compiled and rebooted. Well,
I did put in a new processor, a P120 instead of my old P75, but that
shouldnt really affect it.

I use a 3c590, loaded as a module
2940UW, compiled into the kernel
