Thanks no. There is a LVM/JFS implementation for SNI and Sun already (by Veritas, check www.veritas.com) which sits upon the generic file systems. Methinks the JFS should be the generic FS itself.

No. You can't enlarge logical volumes (nor the filesystems on top) on the fly for example. You can't bundle physical disks to a volume group. /etc.
